we don't charge to send a text message
ask the person if they received the text message

sending is free, receiving all depends on your provider and the plan you have

what are your privacy policies on the free service?

do you record any of the numbers/email addresses? do you sell those on?

just that i recently read that another free service "Teleflip" does sell the numbers and email addresses to support the service. (see Teleflip here: tinyurl.com/5jmt3x/)

looks like a great service though!
