Question

Some General Questions....

Hey all -

I'm considering upgrading from my current SLVR L7 (yeah, I really need to lol). As of now, the most practical and useful device I've found is the AT&T Tilt.

So, I have a few questions about the Tilt, and similar phones (in general)....

1 - Through the wi-fi feature, will I be able to connect to the internet through my home wi-fi network, or at my school, without incurring additional charges from AT&T?

2 - What charges will I incur for installing/using the GPS feature?

3 - Also, what "kind" (for lack of a better word) of internet would I be experiencing through the wi-fi connection? For example, would I be able to use eBay, or purchase something on nike.com?

4 - Also, will I be able to keep my current [basic] voice plan to use with this phone? I won't need a business or whatever plan, correct?

1. Yes

2. The only fee would be to purchase a map program or sub to telenav for 9.99 mo. I think maybe google maps are free.

3. Same internet as if your using a computer just smaller.

4. Nope you will need to add a data plan not sure if they will allow a no data plan. If they would you could only use the wifi service.

Probably worth a call or stop by a storefront to get a good answer. I think you will have to have a plan but just ask.

i thought you had to get a data plan by default when you bought the tilt.

Cool

thanks for the help everyone.

I went ahead and got a [refurbished] Tilt from AT&T for $100. There is absolutely no sign this PPC being refurbished - it's great!

I'll go ahead and answer my questions for anyone else who would like to know...

Yep, no "additional" charges.

2 - What charges will I incur for installing/using the GPS feature?
Only if you purchase To view links in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily. or other "traditional" GPS software (this would be a one time fee. Google Maps and Windows Live work well and utilize the internal GPS, but they require a constant data connection

3 - Also, what "kind" (for lack of a better word) of internet would I be experiencing through the wi-fi connection? For example, would I be able to use eBay, or purchase something on nike.com?
The internet through Pocket Internet Explorer seems a bit "watered down", but other free browsers (such as To view links in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily. and To view links in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily.) make web pages almost identical to a desktop PC.

4 - Also, will I be able to keep my current [basic] voice plan to use with this phone? I won't need a business or whatever plan, correct?
I was able to keep my basic voice plan (without a data plan) and upgrade to the AT&T Tilt.
