Currently an AT&T Customer - Looking for a deal on the iPhone

It used to be that you could call AT&T and talk to them about canceling, and they would offer you a better deal on a plan to keep you as a customer.

Two questions, #1, do they still do that?

#2 - If they still do that, do they do that if you tell them you want the iPhone?

Sprint is selling the Instinct for less than the iPhone, and are calling it the iPhone killer...

1 ...yes in a manner of speaking... the save team will present some options...

2 the iphone cannot be subsidized in any way... the upgrade pricing 199/299 price is solid... ATT has an iPhone knock-off as well the LG VU... if you are posturing for a phone I woud go that route

I hope I've caught you in time -- before you make the worst decision in your life! I'm currently a Sprint subscriber that is switching to ATT, solely because of the Samsung Instinct. Let me assure you, it is NOT an iPhone killer. I regret the day I got rid of my LG Rumor and purchased this terrible piece of equipment.

While Sprint launched a multimillion dollar marketing campaign comparing the Instinct to the iPhone, there is absolutely no way they can ever match up.

Here are my observations on the Instinct, after owning it for 3 months:

1) Email - There is no HTML email available on the phone. The email program only shows you about 25% of your actual email message. For anything more than that, you'll have to log into your regular email program and check it from there. There is no away to save/download attachments from email and also no way to view them. That means no PDFs, JPGs, Word documents.

2) Web Browser - Is a complete joke! Most pages do not render properly. Also, many of sites cause the web browser to crash. Again, I had a better browsing experience on my Rumor. There is no option to download a 3rd party app like Opera Mini because the Instinct is NOT built to Java standards (although its advertised that way). They "left out" the part to have the LUCDI keyboard that is required for all 3rd party apps. Essentially ensuring that all apps will have to be made exclusively for the Instict using their keyboard widget. The fix for this is sometime by the end of the year.

3) Apps - There are none! Sprint held a developer contest that ended in August. Supposedly they will announce the winner in Oct. But, Sprint admits that they do not know when 3rd party apps will be available.

4) Music Player - The option of expandable memory is great. However, on a 4GB card it takes about 5 minutes to scan the entire card for your music. This happens EVERY time you open the music player. The player is terrible with music tags so when searching by artist or album, half of the times songs are missing. The speaker and headphone volume is terrible.

5) Sprint TV - is so pixilated that you can't even watch it. Most of the time its down or causes the phone to freeze.

6) Sprint Radio - works pretty well.

7) Navigation - arguably the best feature on the phone. It isn't always accurate with directions and the traffic portion doesn't always work. Sprint released an update to the Navigation program a few weeks ago that caused all of the phones to crash and it had to be recalled. as of yet, there is still no update.

8) Call Signal - is worse than on my Rumor. Signal jumps up and down.

9) Touch screen - is NOT multi-touch capable. There is also no way to lock the screen while on a call. So if you purchase this phone, get used to hitting the mute and 3 way call button on almost every phone conversation.

10) Customer service - is absolutely the worst! They refuse to acknowledge that there are problems with the phone. We are repeatedly promised updates for the Instinct and they are always pushed back. The only update that we've received to date has actually caused more problems than it fixed.

Thanks

Thanks for the info on the Sprint Instinct. That is good to know. I really am not interested in that phone anyway, but was hoping I could use it to negotiate a better deal with AT&T.

have you considered any other touch screen interface phones instead of the iphone?
Nokia 5800 tube perhaps? the thing about the iphone that kill me, the price of the monthly plan is too steep. $80.00 a month is ridiculous.
besides that, the iphone is a POS serving its main purpose. it makes a terrible telephone!

the retention routine is that they may give you an extra 200 bonus minutes a month. feature Y200.
the deal with the iphone is that at&t and apple are too busy sharing your money with each other, instead of giving any of it back to you.

forget about getting a deal on it, it is in high demand and people are willing to pay.
