| Static, Dropped Calls, Low or no Signal oh my! I have had service with AT&T (formally a Cingular customer) for about 1 and 1/2 years now. My contract will expire in just 5 more months. Within the first 30 days of service I experienced a number of issues with my phone (Motorola V3 Black) and the other phone on my account which was also a V3. I would see an "unregistered sim" error on both devices almost daily which would interfere with me making and receiving calls. When I could makes calls they would often drop during the call with an error that the number I have dialed is invalid - despite the fact I was talking to someone already.
The sim card was replaced on both of the phones and I was told this would solve the problems that the phones where having. This however simply was not the case; the problems continued. I took the phones back to the store once again (still within the 30 days) and the chips where replaced again. This, yet again did not fix the problem. The phones where taken back once more and this time the stored ordered replacements. By the time the replacement phones arrived the 30 day period for which you have to end your contact early was already past.
We continued to experience problems with the phones as far as constant dropped calls where concerned but only seen the unregistered sim error reoccur on one of the phones, so that was replaced again. Though this finally fixed the sim error on the phones we still suffered from very poor service and lots of dropped calls. We thought perhaps it was just the area we lived in but ruled that out last easter when we went to Florida on vacation - the problem happened there too, and during the travel home.
About 5 months ago I contacted AT&T to complain about the service and see what they could do - mind you during all of this I had called a number of times to troubleshoot with customer service and was told the area in which I live shows good coverage and they did not seem to understand why I was having so many issues. Needless to say I was told by the rep that I spoke to on this particular day that the Motorola V3 was known for poor reception and that I should upgrade my phone. I went online and found good reviews on the Samsung Synch (A707). I decided to order one for each line on the account since it was a no-commitment upgrade.
The new phones arrived and we switched out our sim cards... yet these phones show on average 1 or no bars - no matter where I am. In fact, I drove to an AT&T tower which showed me at full signal, and not less than 3 miles from the tower I was back down to no bars! I still experiance dropped calls, poor sound quality, static, and the "we're sorry but the number you dialed....bla...bla...bla" during calls.
Someone, please help!
P.S. Just for giggles I bought one of those "Boost" phones which runs on Nextel - just to see if perhaps the area I lived in just really sucked that bad. Apparently Nextel works fine in my area and does not have the dropped calls or sound issues I am having with AT&T. And yes, I would end my contract with AT&T but I just don't want to pay the $300+ it will cost to do that on my Family Plan account considering I've had so many problems. |
